Boy from Russian Zone
Among German Visitors to Denaby Youth Centre

21 Berlin students are now spending a fortnight’s holiday with friends in Denaby from the Tom Hill Youth centre. Tom Hill have been running exchange visits with Seigan, but this year they were approached to accommodate a party from Berlin, and the party of 11 girls, nine boys and their teacher arrived on Tuesday evening.

Besides visiting local places of interest, including Conisbrough Castle, they will go to your, Chatsworth house and spend a day at Blackpool to see the illuminations. There will also be shown round local industries including either Denaby Main or Cadeby collieries and the leader of Tom Hill youth club, Mr R Walsh, hopes to arrange a visit to a local school.

One of the German boys, Gunther Franken, comes from the Russian sector of Berlin and only managed to get permission to come at the last minute.

On Wednesday, the party were entertained by an orchestral party from Elmfield House, Doncaster and last night they were officially welcome to the club by the chairman Mr R Miller.

The chairman of the Council (Councillor G Cheshire) and the Clerk of the council (Mr R.F.Edwardson) were also invited to the welcome.

Commenting on the exchange system between the two countries, Mr Walsh said that it was becoming very popular in the district and next year they hoped to arrange a visit to Berlin.
