A Girl’s Extraordinary Story

Walter Turner, farmer’s son, Wayne Fleet, was summoned by Sarah Elizabeth Lee, domestic servant, Clifton Hill, Conisbrough, to show cause why he should not contribute to the maintenance of her illegitimate daughter which she alleged him to be the father.

Defendant did not appear, but was represented by Mr Baddiley, solicitor.

Mr Hall, solicitor Pearson complaining, and said the complaint was a domestic service at the house of defendant parents, who lived at Wayne Fleet, Lincolnshire. It was stated that the young man, who was only 15 years of age, was subject to fits and consequently slept in the same room as a servant, so that she might look after him.

The mother of the defendant emphatically denied that she had known the party slept in the same room and said they were certainly not expectation that the girl should do anything of the kind.

In answer to Mr Baddeley, the young woman said it was true she had “walked out” with several young men, but she said the defendant was the father of the child.

Mr Baddiley contended there was no corroboration, and with this the magistrates agreed, dismissing the case.
