Goalkeeper Suspended.
Denaby and Arnold Birch.

Speight (picture), the tall, lithe young goalkeeper who formerly was for a time with Frickley, kept goal for Denaby in their three holiday games, with Grimsby and Mexboro’.

The reason was that Arnold Birch, the old Chesterfield man, was under suspension. We understand that the suspension was laid by the club on account of “insubordination.’

It appears that the displays of Speight with the Mexboro’ League team prompted the committee to give Speight a trial in the Midland League side on Saturday.

Birch was accordingly picked to play for the day in the Mexboro’, League side. He refused to do so, and hence the pus Speight’s work in thethree games was first-rate and full of promise
