Golden Wedding.

Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Laughton, of 13, Shepherd’s Close Bungalows, Hickleton Street, Denaby, celebrate their Golden Wedding  on Tuesday.

One could say they were childhood sweethearts because they were born next door to each other in Old Road, Conisbrough, and lived in Conisbrough until about seven years ago when they were offered a bungalow in Shephard’s Close, Denaby. They were married at Conisbrough Parish Church by the Rev. W. A. Strawbridge.

Mr. Laughton is now 74 and Mrs. Laughton 72. He is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. E. Laughton, of Melton View, Old Road, Conisbrough, and Mrs. Laughton’s parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. J. Warren, of Old Road, both old esteemed families of Conisbrough.

Mr.Laughton retired about nine years ago from his work at Cadeby Colliery. He was for over 40 years an ardent serving member of the St. John Ambulance Brigade.

After his retirement he was associated with Conisbrough Welfare Old Age Pensioners’ Association and served as a delegate and also as chairman of the movement. This work he had to relinquish through indifferent health.

Mr. and Mrs. Laughton have been very happy in their bungalow a Denaby where they have also made many acquaintances. At the time of writing these notes Mr. Laughton is unfortunately a patient at Fullerton Hospital, but he hopes to be home for the quiet celebration they hope to hold. Mr. and Mrs. Laughton have no children but they hoped to be joined for this occasion by Mrs. Laughton’s brother from ‘Nottingham.
