Goldthorpe Man’s Bad Record

A Goldthorpe miner named James Sykes, charged with having been drunk and disorderly at that place on October 28, was committed to prison for a month without the option of a fine, the reason of this exemplary punishment being that he had been 16 times previously convicted – six times this year – for like offences the following were fined:

Frank Siddall, miner, Goldthorpe 5/– and costs; Fred Parkes, miner, Goldthorpe 2/6 and costs; Josiah Hill, miner Denaby, 5/– and costs; James C. Fossett, miner, Mexborough, at 7/6 and costs; William Marsden, miner, Mexborough, 2/6 and costs
