Good Friday Offences at Conisboro’
Joseph Venables, greengrocer, Swinton, was summoned for obstructing the highway with a cart at Conisboro’, on the 10th April. Defendant’s wife appeared.
P.c. Brookes stated that on Good Friday he was on duty on the highway, near the Conisboro’ railway station, in company with P.c. Lister, when they saw defendant on the highway in charge of a horse and dray. The dray was drawn close up to the footpath, and defendant was serving people whilst he was stood on the path. He remained there ten minutes. Witness had cautioned him only half-an-hour previously. It was the rule on Good Friday not to allow persons to stand in the road.
The defendant was ordered to pay the costs, 4s.
For a similar offence, committed at Conisboro’ on the same day, James Arthur Parkinson, fruiterer, Doncaster, was ordered to pay the costs, 4s.
