Sheffield Independent – Monday 29 November 1920
Greater Conisbro.
Fourth Application for Urban Powers.
“The Sheffield Independent’’ understands that the Ministry of Health propose to open, next week, an inquiry into the appeal against the order the County Council constituting Conisboro’ and parts the townships and Denaby urban district.
Conisboro’ made their first application in 1898 and were successful, but the Local Government Board withheld their sanction. An application in 1900 suffered the same fate, and a further attempt in 1914 to secure wider powers was abandoned owing to the war.
A third inquiry was opened a year ago, and lasted two days. The applicants were again successful with the County Council, but the Denaby and Cadeby Colliery Company and others entered an appeal.
The Parish Council, who were last year represented by Mr. Athur Neal, M.P., have this year, his advice, briefed Parliamentary Counsel, and another protracted inquiry may be anticipated.
