Guardians Defrauded
Denaby Couple Treated Leniently
A lenient view was taken by the magistrates in a case at Doncaster on Saturday, in which Peter Farley, miner, of Denaby, and his wife, Ellen Farley, were summoned for having obtained relief from the Doncaster guardians by making a false statement. They pleaded “guilty.”
Wilfred G. Robinson, relieving officer, said the couple had been in receipt of 10s. a week relief since last October. They were relieved up to March 13. On March 6 the wife informed him that her husband had started work. Witness made enquiries and found that he had started work on February 27 instead of March 6. The wan had been off work owing to illness.
The Chairman (Mr. J. Dymond) said the Bench were taking a lenient view, and the couple would have to pay 4. costs each, and the husband refund £1 to the Guardians.
