A Parachutist
Aircraftman William Hammersley, of 6, Athelstane Road, Conisborough, has been in the R.A.F. for two and a half years and has recently passed examinations in parachute jumping.
He was a scholar at Conisborough Senior School, gained a County Minor Scholarship which took him to Mexborough Secondary School, where he gained School Certificate and immediately joined the R.A.F.
He is the son of Mr. James Hammersley, a baths attendant at Cadeby Colliery, who served throughout the last war in the Northumberland fusiliers and was twice wounded.
Mr. Hammersley also saw service in the Boer War and gained the King and Queen´s Medal.
