Hard Hitting At Denaby.
Messrs. F. Lane and S. Breeze promoted a further series of boxing bouts at the Denaby Miners’ Welfare Baths on Saturday evening.
The chief item was billed for eight rounds between Steve Firman (Swinton) and Lal Parker (Stainforth). After the first round Firman made his opponent a chopping-block, and was not surprising when Parker’s seconds threw in the towel after the seventh round.
A scheduled six rounds’ contest between Hornsby (Swinton) and Barlow (Conisborough) ended after the second round with a technical knock-out, Hornsby’s seconds throwing in the towel. Hornsby had the better -of the opening of the rounds, but did not quite stay two minutes.
In the semi-final of a schoolboys’ competition, Dainty (Rossington Street) beat Davies (Morley Place), and Sands (Rossington Street) beat Sanderson (Middle School).
In the first rounds of another schoolboys’ competition, Griffiths (Barnsley) beat Wall (Rossington Street), Price (Middle School) beat Townend (Mexborough Doncaster Road), and Tuskey (Rossington Street) beat Turner (Rossington Street).
Jim Hague (Mexborough), nephew of “Iron” Hague, was the referee. Mr. T. Redfern was the timekeeper.
