Harry Crossley v Jack Petersen

The horrible hammering Harry Crossley got in his fight with Jack Petersen at Cardiff last Monday night was a great blow to his numerous friends in Mexboro’, and dashed our hopes of seeing the heavyweight championship return to this town after twenty-five years.

We were a little consoled by the accounts of Crossley’s wonderful courage and endurance but I’m afraid he was outclassed. Peterson had developed in skill, physique, speed and ringcraft out of all knowledge since last he faced Crossley.

The Mexboro’ lad put up a good defence, but it was like opposing an umbrella to a typhoon. Crossley is by no means finished, and though he is hardly likely to reach championship rank now, has a lot of entertainment value in him, if he ever chooses to continue his career.

Whenever he retires, he will do so with a very honourable record both as to ability and conduct.
