Heavy Fine on Beer Retailer.
At the Doncastcr (West Riding) Police Court Tuesday, John C. Marshall, licensed beer retailer, Conisborough, was summoned for selling beer above the maximum price in four instances, and with refusing information to the Food Inspector.
Harry Thirlwall, food inspector deposed to seeing several persons charged 5d and per pint for beer by defendant. In defendant’s cellar there was bitter beer over gravity beer of controlled price, and other beer which should be sold at per pint. There was no beer that, could be lawfully sold at sd. Defendant refused to produce his invoices. Several witnesses gave evidence of paying 5d per pint for beer, and the Bench convicted, fining defendant £5 in each five cases, with £7 13a costs, or £32 13s in all.
