Heavy Punishment of Pickpockets.

Two brothers, named George and James Taylor, the former a groom and the latter a taylor, were charged with stealing a purse and 8s 4d, the property of Ann Eyre, the wife of a labourer.

Mr Shirley prosecuted.

On 1st of March, the prosecutrix was about to leave Conisbrough Station by train, when the prisoners pushed against, and immediately shemissed herpurse.

The prisoners then made off in different directions, one of them runningup alane, and shortly after the prosecutri´is purse was found in this lane.

George Taylor made a long and Labour defence, with the object of showing that they picked up the purse from off the platform.

The benchhad no doubt George was a regular professional thief, and they sent himinto penal servitude for seven years; James to 18 months imprisonment.
