Helpers Needed
The 300 children on Conisbrough Urban Council’s Windmill Estate could have a youth club of their own in the next year or so—if voluntary helpers come forward.
A number of parents have formed a committee to raise funds to provide the much-needed facilities.
Mr. E. Bramley, of 95 Windmill Avenue, a committee official, told our reporter this week:
“We have applied for the use of land near Sheldon Avenue as the site for a proposed youth centre, but we would need a large sum before building work could commence.”
At present the committee are accumulating little more than £5 a week from a weekly competition.
Mr. Bramley, who suffers from pneumoconiosis, and has been off work for several years, went on:
“There are only a handful of ticket sellers. I am sure that if we had more helpers, people on the estate, which completely lacks any youth facilities, would give their support.
With the competition, and other efforts, we should be able to raise £1,000 within a year or so.”
Anyone interested can contact Mr. Bramley, or Mr. R. Rodgers, chairman, of 45 Clifton Hill, Conisbrough.
