Former Denaby Teacher
Comes back from Canada to Fight
Private G.E.Hewitt, Canadian Contingent

The photograph is of private George E.Hewitt, formerly a teacher at Denaby main. He went out to Canada five years ago, and took up journalism. When he enlisted last October, in the 28th North West battalion (second Canadian infantry Brigade), he held the position of sporting editor of the “Prince Albert Herald”, a thriving Western “daily”.

The North Western battalion was mobilised in Winnipeg, and had seven months training in Canada before coming to England three months ago. They are now encamped in Kent, ready to embark any day.

Mr Hewitt is particularly well known at Denaby, where he resided for a number of years.
