High Award For Denaby Pitman

Mr. John Wall, of 23, Tickhill Square, Denaby, is to be invested as an Honorary Serving Brother of the Order of St. John. It is anticipated that the investiture will take place in London.

Mr. Wall is secretary of the Denaby Main Corps of the St. John Ambulance Brigade and has given 40 years’ service to the movement. For many years he has been responsible for the financial affairs of the Corps

In an interview with our Denaby correspondent he recalled the tremendous amount of work and the team spirit involved in arranging the garden fetes held some time ago at Conisbrough and Mexborough for Corps funds.

He paid tribute to the local tradespeople, club committees, and the mining community in general for their support to efforts made for Corps funds, such as the garden parties and. Christmas competitions.

Mr Wall is an overman at Cadeby Colliery. He has also completed 20 years’ service in the mines rescue service, and for his work he has received  a  gold medal.

He is a well known figure in the village and his friends and associates will be pleased to learn that he is to receive the award.
