Highway offence
Charles Speight, engine driver, Conisbrough, was summoned for a highway offence on the 14thinst.
Police Sgt Blauchard stated that he was on duty near Nash Road, whilst, on the day name, when he saw the defendant driving a traction engine on the road, which was emitting dense volumes of black smoke. This went on for a distance of 200 yards.
As soon as defendants saw witness he shut the valve and the nuisance ceased.
Defendant after it stated that he had no steam, and was obliged to let the smoke come out after witness left him the defendant commenced to put on the smoke again, and the nuisance continued for 300 or 400 yards.
A final 20 shillings including costs was imposed.
