Husband and Wife Sent to Prison
On Saturday, at Doncaster West Riding Court, Ellen Guttridge, married, Denaby, was charged with stealing a quantity of oilcloth, fireirons, stockings, and waterproof sheets, the property of George Edwards, of Denaby; Thomas Greaves, of Rotherham; and Isadore Isaac Pearl, of Barnsley; and Samuel Guttridge, collier, her husband, was charged with receiving.
The female prisoner pleaded guilty. She was locked up in the first instance for stealing stockings, and whilst in custody a quantity of goods were removed from her house to an unoccupied house next door.
The female prisoner was committed to prison for one month on two charges, the terms to run concurrently, and the male prisoner was committed to prison for two months.
