Still trying to get it “Airborne”
Conisbrough Council are still waiting for a reply from the Minister of Transport to their request for improved lighting on the main Sheffield Road at Conisbrough.
This week however the council decided to erect used sodium type streetlamps at the junction of Poplar Grove and Sheffield Road and Mickelbring Grove and Sheffield Road, to aid road safety.
Members heard that the junctions could not be distinguished by motorist travelling along Sheffield Road at night, Mr E. T. Miller, clerk to the council, told the “South Yorkshire Times” this week that they were still trying to get the Sheffield Road lighting scheme “off the ground.”
They had written to the Minister strongly pressing for the scheme in view of the number of accidents which had occurred on the road. “We have supplied the accident figures and have broken down the statistics two types and places of accidents over the past three years,” he added.
