In and Out

A 23 year old Denaby colliery filler, John G. Rigby, of Annerley Street, was sent to prison for three months at the Doncaster West Riding Court on Saturday for stealing £2 10s belonging to Denaby and Cadeby Main Collieries, from a gas meter at his home.

Supt. Walker stated that the padlock on the metre had been forced and 7s 11d was found to be missing by the collector.

Rigby pleaded “guilty” and said he put pennies in the metre to obtain a supply of gas and then took them straight out again.

He was married with one child and had been off work for some time due to illness, he added.
