Industrialised Houses at Denaby

Conisbrough Council been told that if they agreed to make use of industrialise housing in development in Denaby Main it would necessitate the telescoping of two or more years building programme into one contract.

A Meeting

This was one of the facts which emerged from a report presented to the Council engineer and surveyor at a meeting which had taken place, with Mr AH King, a representative of the National Building Agency, and the Regional Architect of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government.

After having been given details of the site at Denaby Main and the programme envisaged – taking into account money subsidies – Mr King pointed out that at this stage no firm recommendation regarding specific systems suitable for this site could be made, as over the next two years major developments in industrialised housing may take place. However, great interest was shown in the Council’s proposals for development and redevelopment.

Preliminary layout

A copy of the preliminary layout of the allotment development site at Denaby Main was supplied to Mr King who undertook to investigate this layout with a view to achieving the whole development in two story dwellings only.

Following his investigation, Mr King will make certain recommendations to the Council about possible type of industrialised systems suitable for the scheme.

Conisbrough Councillors have agreed to be represented at the meeting to consider the formation of a South Yorkshire Consortium of Local Authorities for the purpose of building industrialised housing.

Ministry Policy

Mr RM Clark, the Council’s engineer and surveyor, told the “South Yorkshire Times” that the use of industrialise housing was consistent with Ministry policy. “We fully realise that if we wish to let a contract of any size we could be asked to use industrialised housing” he added.

A two-year housing programme for Conisbrough could involve 200 houses
