Inquest at Conisbro’.

March 1884

Sheffield Independent – Thursday 20 March 1884

Inquest at Conisbro’.

Yesterday an inquest was held at the Station Inn, Conisbro’, touching the death of Jas. Lawson, boatman, living at Nash row, Wath, who was drowned on Tuesday night, whilst “levelling” some coal which was being sent into a boat from a “shoot” at Denaby Main Colliery.

The accident was not seen, according to the evidence, the man not being missed until a hat was seen floating in the water. A search was made, and the body was recovered. It was conjectured that the deceased had fallen from the plank on which he was standing.

The evidence not being of a more definite kind, a verdict of “Found drowned” was returned.
