So Inquest on Denaby Man Adjourned

The Denaby district coroner, mister. C. R. Marshall, yesterday (Thursday) opened and adjourned an inquest on William Henry Bellaby (55) contractors assistant, of 7, Loversall Street, Denaby Main, who died on Tuesday.

The widow, Florence Mary Bellaby, told the coroner that her husband worked at Denaby Main colliery. He had served in the Royal Army Service Corps during the last war and had been discharged in 1946 when he started work at Denaby Main colliery.

She said he had an accident involving his ribs shortly before Christmas 1953, and had been in Doncaster Royal infirmary a week. He started work again in January 1954 and worked until February 1955, when he complained of chest painss and blackouts. he was examined at Doncaster chest clinic and in Sheffield, and since he had stopped work he had been seeing the doctor weekly.

On Friday, June 7, he went to bed, his condition became worse, and on Tuesday he died.

John Charles Humphreys, of 26, Denaby Avenue, Conisbrough, a compensation clerk, told the coroner that Bellaby was in receipt of a 10% pneumoconiosis pension at the time of his death. The coroner said a pathologist had made an examination but there were certain matters upon which he (the pathologist) wanted to make further tests, so the inquest would be adjourned.
