It All Depends on the Track

The high successful Donkey St. Leger, held on Conisbrough Ellershaw field last year was to have been followed up by a Donkey Derby but the idea may have to be abandoned unless a suitable track can be found in the near future.

The Derby organisers, Conisbrough and Denaby Old People’s Welfare Committee, are reluctant to use any field where spectators, particularly children, can be pushed out onto the track when the donkeys are racing.

Denaby United have had to refuse permission to use the Tickhill Square ground because of re-seeding.

The committee are now looking round the district to find other accommodation for the big meeting – provisionally fixed for June 7th, the Sunday after the Epsom Derby.
