Ivanhoe Film at Conisbrough
It was reported this week that film executive Pandro S Burman, producer of the proposed £1 million colour production of Sir Walter Scott’s “Ivanhoe,” was expected in England this week to start casting and picking locations in Yorkshire, County Durham or Northumberland.
The film will be filmed at Elstree and on location in the North of England and although nothing definite has been decided it is more than likely that Conisbrough Castle will be used as one of the location centres.
The “South Yorkshire Times” understands that Deborah Kerr and Stewart Granger may be the stars, but no final decision has been taken yet.
Enquiries by their “Times” at Conisbrough Castle yesterday revealed that no film visitors had been to the Castle so far this week.
Councillor G Cheshire, Conisbrough Urban Council Recreation Grounds Committee Chairman, stated yesterday afternoon that no approach had yet be made to the Council by the American film company, Metro Goldwyn Mayer (producer of the film), but the Council will be delighted to give any assistance locally to the project.
“People in the district will find this filmmaking an entirely new experience” he added.
