South Yorkshire Times January 11.
Defeated by Final Burst.
Denaby United 1 Boston United 3
Up to 14 minutes from the end of this Midland League match between Denaby United and Boston at Tickhill square, Denaby, were leading, not entirely deservedly, but they were ahead. Then Boston equalised and it looked as if justice had been done, but they didn’t stop there and snatched a win with two goals in the last 4 minutes.
For most of the first half Boston I be the more dangerous attackers, their forward line better organised than Denaby’s efforts, which relied too much on individual effort.
Denaby´s defence held firm against all Boston’s first half efforts, although they had difficulty in getting their forwards moving, but a late rally gave them the lead just before the interval.
Harvey and missed another chance, trying to take the ball round Pitts (Boston’s goalkeeper) and having it taken half embarked instead of shooting first time, but in the 43rd minute Roebuck made no mistake when he nipped into it to hit a loose ball – kept by both Denaby and Boston players out of Pitt´s reach as he tried to gather it.
The goal put a little more heart and method into Denaby´s play, but it may Boston more determined. In the 76th minute – a minute after a Boston goal had been ruled offside – Birch took aim and hit the equaliser into the roof of the net.
With 4 min left and only a minute to go Boston added two more goals to rub it in.
Denaby at some right to look dejected but with Boston’s tenacity and their own, at times, half-hearted play they didn’t have to look far for where to pin the blame.
