Barnsley Holgate Grammar School
After passing the 11+ at Park Street School, Wombwell I was able to go to Barnsley Holgate Grammar School for the next 5 years.
it certainly taught me discipline and respect.
Lines, detention, board rubbers and the cane were all used by the Masters; some with relish!
If assembly was noisy were made to stay behind after school and put our hands on our heads – try that for 10 minutes!
I was to get 6 GCE O levelsbut University was never an option
