Joyce to fight in Rome

Conisbrough’s Tommy Joyce has been chosen to represent Scotland at light welter weight at the European boxing Championships to be held in Rome.

His manager Mr E. Oxer, said this week that Joyce would travel to Glasgow on May 22. To meet the rest of the Scottish team, leaving for Rome the following day.

Mr. Oxer he added: “this is indeed an honour to represent one’s country in such an important event. However, Tommy, realising the world class opposition he will be among is training very hard to ensure that nothing is lacking in physical fitness.

“He has experienced the toughness and skill of some of these, having boxed against Ireland, Poland and Romania.”
