Mexborough and Swinton Times, June 7.
An Exciting Match.
Swinton 80 for 8 Denaby 156 for 9
Smith 38, Scott 47
One of the most exciting and interesting matches in the Mexborough league took place on Saturday at Swinton. Denaby brought a fair number of spectators, and a good crowd assembled.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat. The start was disastrous and Denaby were 23 for 4. W. Scott and “Crick” Smith, Denaby´s pro made what proved to be the best and that Denaby have made this year, putting on 78 runs.
Scotthad rather hardlines in not carrying talent money, being three short of 50 when he was bowled. Smith retired from a catch by the home captain, Kemp, when he had made 38, both batsmen having played very well.
Swinton had their captain and Blurton to thank for saving them from a crushing defeat, both been not out at the close with eight wickets lost.
