Inquest on Denaby Miner
A verdict of “Accidental death” was returned by a jury at a Denaby inquest on Friday on Thomas Genders (51), miner, 70, Annerley Street Denaby, who died In Fullerton Hospital, Denaby on Thursday last following injuries received in a fall of roof at Denaby Main Colliery the previous day. The Doncaster District coroner, Mr, W. H. Carlile, conducted the Inquiry.
Dr Ian MacArthur (Denaby) said that cause of death was surgical shock due to multiple injuries which included severe contusion of the left chest and shoulder, rupture of the lung and a fractured pelvis.
John William Overton, miner of 9, Wood View, Denaby, said that he was working with Mr Genders in the Parkgate seam on Wednesday.
They-were instructed to complete the packing in the 216’s face. To do this dirt was required.. Genders was digging waste dirt and shovelling it out of the goof to Overton when, the roof collapsed and Genders was pinned by a large stone. Before they had started digging they had set four safety supports.
