Left without Notice at Conisborough

Joseph Appleyard, farmer, of Conisborough, claimed £3 for damages under the Employer and Workmen’s Act from James Wilcox, farm labourer of Conisborough, for leaving without notice on 14 May.

Miss J Baddeley explained that defendant was engaged eight or nine years ago by Mr Appleyard, who gave him a pound a week, with the use of a cottage. He had left suddenly and without notice, and when complainant asked him why, he said he had had words with his brother Mr John Appleyard; and he was not coming back.

He had been without a Cowman for three weeks.

Mr Appleyard gave evidence, and defendant admitted the charge, and an order for £2 and costs was made.
