Licensee is Hoping to Re-Form Conisbrough and District Games League

Denaby licensee, Mr Norman Bulmer, hopes to reform the Conisbrough and district Indoor Games Lee which lapsed some years ago owing to lack of support.

Lee was to all public houses and clubs in Conisbrough, Mexborough and Denaby and had 4 cups presented annually for darts, dominoes, crib and whist. Three of them are now in Mr Bulmer’s possession at the Denaby Main Hotel, the hotel team having won them in the final season of the league.

Mr Bulmer, who took over the Denaby Main at the end of 1964, believes that the 4th cup, presented to the league by Roses brewery, is in the hand of the Mona Working Men’s Club, on Doncaster Road, Conisbrough. The three Cooksey house were given by the Hewitt’s, John Smith and Tetley breweries, but he does not know which games they were for.

Mr Bulmer told me this week: “A lot of my customers have expressed an interest in getting the league going again, and I have been asked if I would try to get things moving.”

At the moment Denaby Main Hotel team is playing in the Harworth and District league, in which they have won 6 out of 7 matches in the summer league.

“We are holding a meeting at the Denaby Main Hotel on Thursday evening, June 30, and anyone who is interested in re-forming the league should come along,” added Mr Bulmer
