Mr. Mick Wood, landlord of the Blue Bell, Hackenthorpe, is to leave in September to take over a new hotel being built at Denaby Main.

Since moving to the Blue Bell three years ago, Mr. Wood has established the hotel as a popular spot for teenagers because of the “pop” groups he has engaged.

Dave Berry and his group The Cruisers were among the first, and the Fortunes, who are now No. 3 in the “Top 20”, made their first appearance in the Sheffield area at the Blue Bell.

Mr. Wood was earlier steward of Darnall Horticultural Club for four years, and before that he was at the Fox Inn, Conisbrough, at Denaby Main Institute and at Maltby Sports and Social Club.

He was a miner at Silverwood Colliery for 20 years before going into the licensed trade. He is married and has a son, Terry, and daughter, Angela.

His wife, Lydia, is a native of Denaby, so when they move to the new hotel, The Tavern, she will be going back to her “home territory”.
