Lighting Appeal Goes to Minister
Conisbrough Council are to urge the minister of transport to reconsider her decision not to include the main Sheffield Doncaster Road at Conisbrough in her current trunk road lighting programme.
The highways and planning committee are considered a letter from the Ministries Divisional Road Engineers regretting that the lighting of the road had not been selected for the current program and asking for details of recent fatal accidents.
The council had also received a letter from the Doncaster district coroner, Mr. K. D. Potter, stating that in his opinion the existing streetlights on the main Doncaster Sheffield road may have been in contributory factor in a recent fatal accident and asking the Council to consider providing street lighting of an adequate standard.
Informed
The coroner had been informed that the lighting of the road was now the minister’s responsibility and a reply had been received to the effect that the Divisional Road Engineer and the Ministry of transport would be informed of the coroner’s observations. The committee chairman R. H. Shepard said that the council had not lost sight of the problem, they were deeply sorry that the accident had occurred and hoped the ministry would reconsider the decision.
