Talking It Over
A deputation of the Denaby Main Branch of the Y.M.A. met the Denaby Colliery management at the colliery offices on Wednesday to discuss the grievances which resulted in the recent twelve days’ strike at pit.
The deputation consisted of Messrs. T. Shephard (president), J. T. E. Collins (secretary), J. C. MacFarlane (delegate), and J. Humphries (committee man).
The colliery company were represented by Mr. W. Dean, who is acting as manager during absence on holiday of Mr. Norman Hulley (manager). The conference lasted nearly three hours and we understand that the management promised to rectify certain grievances. Work was resumed at the colliery on Sunday evening and Monday.
As the strike was unofficial the men were not entitled to strike benefit, and hundreds assembled at the Conisborough Public Assistance department headquarters on Thursday and Friday to apply for relief.
