Officials Assaulted At Conisborough

The stationmaster at Conisborough (Mr Richards) experienced a rough five minutes on Thursday night. He was called out of his home man for a man named Robert Lightfoot, Balby, who was found drunk in a third class compartment.

It was stated at Doncaster Police Court yesterday that a porter woke prisoner up and asked him for his ticket. The man, in response sprang up and struck the porter on the mouth. In the struggle he broke the porter’s watch-chain. The booking clerk came to the porter’s assistance, and he was also assaulted.

The station master was then summoned, and was thrown down on the platform times, being struck on the head and severely kicked on the shins It took three men to get prisoner away, and he was finally handed over to the police. Mr. Richards was quite exhausted with the struggle, and could scarcely stand.

Prisoner, asked if he had any questions to put said, “I’m all black and blue. Who kicked me ?”

Mr. Richards: I can’t say.

Prisoner; Two or three men were kicking me.

Witness: I saw no one kicking you.

After corroborative evidence, prisoner said he didn’t remember anything.

It was stated that was returning from a football match at Mexborough. For being drunk and disorderly he was ordered to pay 6s 6d for the assault was sent to prison for 21 days.
