Local Men in Forces

Conisborough and Denaby with a population of about 15,000, have roughly 1,000 representatives in H.M. Forces.

This was revealed at last week’s meeting of the local Comforts Fund, when it was decided to send half-a-crown to each local serving man for August Bank Holiday.

The hon. Treasurer, Mr. R. W. Birch, pointed out that the numbers of serving men had increased appreciably since the first despatch of Postal Orders at Christmas, 1939, when 592 men were involved.  When the second gift was sent at Whitsun, 1940 the number involved had increased to 647, and by Christmas 1940, the number had risen to 899.

He now estimated that the number of local men in the Forces amounted to 1,000.
