Long Service Gift
Cadeby Winding Engineman’s Retirement
When Mr. John Cooke, of Mexborough, now retired, was presented with a gold watch at Cadeby Officials’ Club on Tuesday in recognition of his 52 years’ continuous service with Cadeby Main Colliery, it was estimated that during the 41 years he had been a winding engineman the lives of approximately one million men had depended on him and that from the coal side he had “handled” about ten million tons. The remaining eleven years of Mr. Cooke’s service has been on haulage engines.
