Looked Over The Cage Side.
A New Conisborough jury, sitting under the Deputy Coroner, Mr. F. Allen, of Doncaster, last evening returned a verdict of “Accidentally killed” in respect to the terrible death of Laurence Clarke (27), a filler, of 13, George Street, which look place Saturday afternoon.
According to Harry Bellerby, the man in charge of the lift, everything was all right when he started the lever, but he heard a sound as of bottle breaking, and there was an extra pull on the lever.
He stopped at once, and the deceased was got out. His lamp was found below, and it was possible that had incautiously put his head over the side without looking how far he was from the top.
When witness started the lift the deceased had his head in, and everything was all right.

Terrible Pit Cage Fatality.
Lawrence Clarke, New Conisborough, aged 27, met with an awful death at the Cadeby Colliery, near Doncaster, on Saturday.
While beihg drawn out of the pit his neck was caught between the hydraulic and the flat sheets, and he was nearly decapitated.
Clarke had only been married six months.
