Lorries ‘Taken For A Ride’
Did Their Loading at Conisbrough

Twice last Saturday empty lorries travelling northward along the Sheffield Road, Conisbrough, ‘piggy-backed’ the rest of the way to County Durham, using the tipping pit next to the Humber Warehousing Company Ltd., for ‘loading’ purposes.

Mr. A. B. Platts, manager of the warehouse, in Conisbrough told our reporter on Monday. The aim of the drivers in both cases was to economise on petrol.

After obtaining permission, one of the lorries went into the bottom of the pit, the tail board was let down, and the second lorry was run on to the first lorry. This procedure was repeated in the afternoon by another pair of lorries.

This is the first time Mr. Platts can remember lorries using the pit for this purpose.
