M.B.E. award for former Denaby man
News was received at the week-end from Mrs. Higgins, wife of Mr. Harry Higgins, a one time resident of Denaby Main, that he had received the M.B.E. in the New Year’s Honours list.
In our issue of October 5th, 1963, our Denaby correspondent wrote of Mr. Higgins’s work as site foreman on reconstruction work at 10, Downing Street.
He is well-known to many people in Denaby Main who are extremely pleased to learn of the award. He was a member some years ago of Denaby Parish Church Young Men’s Club and an officer in the one time Church Lads’ Brigade. He was also a server at the church and a sidesman.
He married a Denaby girl (Miss Green) whose step-brother (Mr. Day) has a shop in Melton View. Harry’s father and step-mother have returned to Denaby Main after living at Old Denaby and they now live at 68, Tickhill Street.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Higgins live at 44, Holland Park, Cheveley, near Newmarket, and Mr. Higgins is at the moment engaged on supervision of the building of a church and of a selling ring in connection with the Newmarket Stables.
