Mammoth Outing
About 1750 children and adults of the Sunday schools of Conisbrough travelled by special trains to Cleethorpes on Monday, on the occasion of the annual outing. All denominations sent their quotos with the exception of St Alban’s Roman Catholic church, and all schools were closed except the Roman Catholic school, which has alternative dates for half days.
One short hour by the sea and down came the rain, a drizzle and then a real downpour developed, which continued until one hour before the time of return.
Fortunately Cleethorpes has an abundance of amusement shelter, but that palled in the end and the servers were well patronised.
Despite the rain the children had a good time, though nothing like what had been anticipated for months.
A joint Sunday School committee with Mr Harold Brocklesby as secretary, made the arrangements.
