Castle FC  – General Meeting and Challenge Cup

This club held its last general meeting of the season on Monday last , the chair being taken by Mr Greaves, the president (Mr Colly) being absent through ill health.

Mr Greaves, the honourary secretary took advantage of the occasion to prtesent the promised cup. The Cup which is quart size, with 3 handles, bears the following inscription: “Conisbro’ Castle Football Club Challenge Cup. Presented by E.Greaves 1879, President T.Colly”

He spoke very favourably of the game, and hoped to witness many enjoyable matches for it, and trusted much good would be derived therefrom. He alsoreferred to the old proverb that people got more kicks than half pence, but he hoped they would get a variety of other coins, and give a little, knowing it to be a great blessing to give as to receive.

He congratulated them on the prosperity of the club, it being its first season, the receiopts being £31 6s 10d and expenses £19 4s 3d.

A vote of thanks was given to the chairman and officers of the club, also to Mr T H Simpson for his great kindness in allowing the use of his field to play in. It was also resolved that £2 2s be given to the Doncaster Infirmaery.
