Denaby Stopped.
Caught in a Weak Mood
Rotherham County Smash the sequence.
Denaby United 2 Rotherham County Reserve 3
after a splendid run of success, wearing 27 out of a possible 20 points were garnered, Denaby had to suffer reverse on Saturday when Rotherham County Reserve took away two precious points. The visitors were always alert, fast and tricky, whereas the home team floundered badly. The whole team, with exception of Gaffney, the latest edition, were off colour.
Losing the toss, and the handicap of playing first into a strong sun must have had an adverse effect on the form of Denaby, and their opponents were taking too likely, always a dangerous practice.
Denaby fielded the usual team, with the introduction of Gaffney at centre half, and Rotherham had one change, Pye, deputising for Dungworth.
The attendance would be under 2000 when Godfrey kicked off, and Denaby advanced. Play was quickly transferred to the other end where a fruitless corner was forced. The county right wing was checked by Illingworth, but Boulton returned to the attack.
In 5 minutes the first goal was scored, and the manner of it left the spectators speechless with astonishment. Easton should have scored, but missed badly. The chance was not lost for Wild came up and had no difficulty in tapping the ball past Bromage. It was a soft goal, but it made Denaby sit up and take notice.
Chambers made a fine run through almost to the goal, then Picknett passed to Jackson, who returned a lovely centre but there was no one up to receive it. Hamilton tested Robinson, and immediately afterwards Robinson took the ball off Godfrey’s head. Denaby were at this point having a good deal of play, and being one goal down was no cause for concern as Shaw
showed when he neatly drove home a centre from Hamilton, to equalise after 20 minutes.
Rotherham soon took the lead again, Barton
sped along the right, beating Coope and Taylor and with a very fine cross shot found the net, the goal being well earned. The Rotherham right wing was proving much too fast for Denaby.
After Picknet had found Robinson safe, Hamilton again displayed his worth on the right wing. A similar movement to the first goal scoring effort being reproduced. Shaw again met the centre, but this time he did the trick with a neat header.
Wilde puts a centre from roles over the top. Easton then cleverly worked his way through a crowd of defenders and with a fast ground shot again gave the lead to the visitors.
Opening the second half, Denaby assumed the offensive and for a long time Robinson had plenty to do. He maintain a stubborn defence, and at this point saved his side. Many times. In the last three matches. Denaby have been up against fine goalkeepers. Picknett and hardliners the shop which went over.
Denaby now appeared overeager, and it was soon apparent that the sequence of victories was to be ended. Rotherham played like a winning team, but Denaby became very disappointing will stop Rotherham’s tactics in long delays in taking place kicks roused the ire of the spectators, and certainly did not improve the nerves of the home team.
Williams almost increased Rotherham’s lead, but with the goal at his mercy he put over the top, and time came with Denaby one down.
This was a very bad latch on the part of aspirins for honours, but we must not throw up the sponge after one setback. Denaby were beaten by a better team. This certainly was not the Rotherham Co. We expect to see after the chemical against your. Denaby had an off day, such as sooner or later comes to all teams
