Denaby United 3 Gainsborough Reserve 0
Splendid weather favoured the match which was played at the Denaby ground on Saturday afternoon before a fairly good attendance. The result was to add one more win to the Denaby record, Gainsborough having to retire beaten by three goals to none.
Denaby had a weak team, being short of E Whitehouse, G Hardy and Robinson, all injured.
Denaby had slightly the best of the opening exchanges, Chapman missing by inches with a good effort, as did Ryan shortly afterwards.
Roper scored after 24 min from a foul. The visitors then attacked, and Nicholson sent in a superb shot, but Dean saved capitally. Following this, the home defence was severely tested. Fine work by Chapman and Ryans ended in Roper forcing a corner, which proved abortive.
Several more corners fell to the home team, but they all proved fruitless, and half-time arrived without any further scoring having taken place.
Resuming, Denaby attacked, and Hardy centred well but Ryans headed just wide, whilst H Whitehouse twice repeated the effort. Dean and Sheldrake each repelled shots at the home end, but Denaby working down prettily, Ryans with a short shot beat Bond a second time. H Whitehouse, followed with a third from a pass by Hardy.
Gainsborough were clearly outplayed and most of the game was in favour of Denaby, who played with every confidence, but nothing further was scored.
