“We must distinguish between an ambulance service and a taxi service – one is a necessity which we must afford – the other a convenience we cannot afford.”  Dr. R. S. Hynd (Divisional Medical Officer) in his annual report to Darfield Urban Council makes this comment when referring to misuse of the ambulance service.

The Pennine Way  – which will enable travellers to go from Derbyshire to the Scottish border on foot or on horseback through some of the most beautiful country in England – may be available to the public by next Easter.
