On Tuesday a royal train ran from London to Plymouth, a distance of 286 miles, in 3 hours 53 minutes, an average speed of 60 miles per hour.

Samuel Dougal, the notorious Moat Farm murderer, was hanged in Chelmsford Gaol on Tuesday morning. Just before the bolt was drawn he confessed his guilt.

A new death fund is being formulated in connection with the Denaby Main Colliery. The idea is a new one, and Mr. W. Newberry has been appointed secretary.

Mr. C. H. Gee, a former booking clerk at the Wombwell G.C. Station, who left Wombwell 18 months ago, has been appointed stationmaster for Bickenhaw and Abram.

Last week, at St. Neots, Mr. F. J. O. Montagu, of Berkeley Square, London, was fined £6 and costs for furiously driving a motor-car. The police alleged he was travelling at the rate of 30 miles an hour.

The new General Post Office in Market Street, Mexboro’, is being furnished, and it is anticipated it will shortly be opened for business. The appointment of Postmaster has not yet been made.

At Derbyshire Assizes, on Monday, William Shepherd (56), licensed victualler, was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment with hard labour for receiving property, well knowing the same to have been stolen, at Chesterfield, on Jan. 1st.

Mr. George H. Hirst, for many years checkweighman at Cadeby Main, and secretary of the Cadeby Miners’ Lodge, was on Thursday elected checkweighman for the Dearne Valley Colliery workmen.

Mr. C. Hinchliffe, headmaster of the Barnsley Road Board Schools, Wombwell, starts on his American tour on July 31st. He will leave Liverpool by the S.S. “Cedric,” White Star Line.

One of the exhibits at Swinton Horse Show that attracted much attention was a large dray belonging to Mr. White, miner, Mexboro’, on which was carved wheaten bags of their new “Store” brand flour, a speciality noted for its digestible and nutritive properties.

Three Mexboro’ cricketers, W. Nicholson, W. P. Thwaites, and J. Fletcher, have been invited to play for Captain Lauzette’s team at Weston Park on Monday next. The match is against Rotherham Town, and will be graced by the presence of members of the Royal family. General French, and others are expected shortly.
