Bride, bridegroom and two bridesmaids were all in khaki at a wedding at Wombwell Parish Church on Tuesday.
Mr and Mrs C.H. Stenton, March Street, Conisbrough, who are both 75, celebrated their Golden Wedding on Monday.
Mr Michael Barnsley has been appointed curate at Mexborough Parish Church and will probably be ordained just before Christmas.
On December 13 men born between January 1, 1923, and June 30, 1920, will register for military service at their local employment exchanges.
Employees of the Cortonwood Colliery Co. have agreed to a stoppage of 6d. per man and 3d. per boy in support of Mrs. Churchill’s ” Aid for Russia” Fund.
Mexborough Parish Church Gift Day on Saturday which took .the place of the annual bazaar, realised £ 225 9s. 9d., which is considerably more than the bazaar usually yields.

Mexborough Education Committee have decided to forward to the County Education Comiittee a recommendation that children should be taught boot repairing at school during war time.
Mr. H. C. Smith, manager of Mexborough Employment Exchange since 1938, has been promoted and will leave before Christmas to take up other duties under the Ministry of Labour and National Service.
Tributes to the good work done Mr. J. C. Wilkinson as headmaster of St. Thomas’s Schools, Kilnhurst, since 1932, were paid when presentations were made to him at Kilnhurst Church Hall on Friday. Mr. Wilkinson has this week taken over the headship of Cudworth Modern School.

As a result of a letter received from a former member, Darfield U.D.C. have discovered .hat they have no power to close their park on Sundays. This was revealed at a meeting of the Council on Friday, when a decision to open the park on Sundays from 10 a.m. to one hour before sunset was confirmed.
Mr. W. G. Jessop, stationmaster at Wombwell L.N.E.R. Station. has left the district to take up an appointment as stationmaster at Firsby, near Skegness.
Mexborough National Savings Committee decided at a meeting on Monday to hold a Warship Week from February 21st to 28th and to aim at £70,000, the cost of a corvette.
Lieut. J. E. Brooke Smith, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Smith, of West Melton, has been promoted Captain. He is serving in England with the Royal Armoured Corps.
Seven grandsons were bearers at the funeral at Wombwell Cemetery on Monday of Mrs. Annie Maria Spencer, of 13, Stonyford Road, Wombwell, who died last Wednesday

Fourteen miners and a: conductress were injured in a bus accident early on Saturday morning when travelling from Houghton Main Colliery. All were treated at a first aid post.
Major P. H. Lloyd, General Manager of Manvers Main Collieries, who has been serving in the Anti-Aircraft Section of the Royal Artillery since the outbreak of war, has been promoted Lieutenant-Colonel.
The success achieved by Mitchell Main Cricket Club in winning the Barnsley District Section of the South Yorkshire League was celebrated with a supper and sing-song at the Welfare Institute on Saturday.

Conisbrough hopes to raise £70,000 for a motor torpedo boat in its Warship Week, which starts to-morrow (Saturday). The effort will be opened at Denaby Main Council School by Rear Admiral Sir Thomas Spence Lyne, Chief Welfare Officer, at Manvers Main Colliery.

Whereas average weekly earnings of over six millions of British workpeople had risen last July by 42.3 per cent. as compared with the last week in October. 1938, the Ministry of Labour’s cost-of-living figure rose by only 44 points (about 28 per cent.) during the same period.
