Last Friday, the Rev. W.A. Strawbridge, M.A., completed his 25th year as Vicar of Conisborough.

A new branch of the Yorkshire Penny Bank will be opened next Wednesday at Swinton.

Today (Saturday) the wardens and sidesman of the Wombwell Parish Church are organising “a mile of pennies.”

A course of lectures on Great composers is to be given in Mexborough under the auspices of the Miners Welfare Fund.

A parish hall has been erected at Bolton on Dearne, and the Bishop of Sheffield and Lord Halifax will be present at the opening ceremony on January 1.

The Wath Council have made an unsuccessful appeal for permission to build more houses under the government scheme, and are now contemplating building on their own account.

The Wath Coral Society will give a performance of “Maritana” (concert version) on Tuesday evening at Wath. The Conisborough Music Society gave “Hiawatha” on Wednesday.

A tablet is been erected in the Station road schools, Conisborough, to the memory of the late Mr T.R. Sellars, for many years headmaster, and the tablet will be unveiled next Thursday at 3.30.

Mr C.P.Finn, B.Sc., F.I.C., manager of Manvers Main Chemical and By Product Department, has been appointed on the governing body (Coal and Fuel Department) of the Sheffield University.

The Mexborough Urban Council have summoned a public meeting, to be held in the public Hall, tonight (Friday), to consider measures for the relief of unemployment distress in the town.

The Board of Trade Journal states that the coal output at the mines in Great Britain for the weekend in November 25 was 5,471,800 tons, as compared with 5,376,000 tons in the previous week, and 4,673,000 tons in the corresponding week last year.

Miss Arthur Thompson, general manager of the Manvers Main Collieries, has been invited to become President of the Mexborough Athletic Club, the organisation recently established under the Miners Welfare Scheme.

The Old Students of the Mexborough Secondary School on arranging to hold their annual hockey and football matches, followed by tea and dance on December 16. The Christmas Reunion will be held on December 22.

We understand that the area intended to be served by the proposed secondary school at Wath on Dearne comprises the urban district of Wath, Bolton, Wombwell, Thurnscoe, Darfield and Rawmarsh, and the parishes of Brampton Bierlow, Great Houghton and Little Houghton.
