The Silver Tree effort organised by the Ladies’ Committee of the Montagu Hospital, held yesterday (Thursday) realised over f400.

A Christmas treat is to be held at Mexborough for the children of all Mexborough men serving in H.M. Forces.
Three men were killed in a road accident in which two lorries and a motor cycle were involved on the Warren Vale Road between Rawmarsh and Swinton on Monday night.

Each Swinton man or woman serving in the Forces since 1939 has received £5 15s. from the War Welfare Fund. A disbursement of 15s. to each is being made at the present time. Men who are prisoners of war have the amounts due to them placed into a special account in the bank.
Preliminary preparations are already In hand for the big two-day show of allotment and garden produce to be held next August at Mexborough in support of the Mexborough Montagu Hospital.
The show is being organised by allotment societies in the Hospital’s contributory area.
Major Lloyd George, replying to a question in the House of Commons this week, stated that the percentage of man-shifts lost which could have been worked, Including absences due to sickness or accident at the coal face, in the South Yorkshire coalfield was 16.81 per cent, in the first output bonus period, and 17.52 per cent. in the second. The number of shifts worked per face-worker per week averaged 4.76 and 4.84 respectively. In the first output bonus period the output per man-shift worked at the coal face was 3.29 tons and in the second 3.35 tons.
